From the outside, you’ll notice their white interiors and plain brown wooden chairs. Probably my fault, but this is a look I associate with pizza parlors or burger joints, maybe it’s just me.
Another evident thing you’ll see though is that the place is always packed. For a place that’s still on soft opening, that’s pretty good. Another good thing about the place is the variety in the crowd. Tables are filled with a range of the very young to the not so young crowd. For me, it says a lot about the place.
Because we have been on a pork spree the previous days, we were leaning towards their seafood. We ordered the Thai Squid Salad Tostada and Tuna Ceviche to start.
The Thai Squid Salad Tostada is basically just a mix of greens and squid on top of a crispy tortilla and drizzled with peanut dressing.
This is the Tuna Ceviche. Yes, it’s so pretty, it looks like a terrarium. I waned to water it and see if the pretty things would start growing. The white in the shot glass is the Pinakurat Granita, spicy pinakurat with coconut milk.
Both the Tuna and Ceviche and Thai Squid Salad Tostada tasted… interesting for the lack of a better word. It sort of tastes more complicated than it looks.
The TAPRILOG is just a twist of our usual Pinoy Tapa. Paired with Garlic Risotto for a twist.
The Salmon Mentaiko is another dish that tasted interesting. A Japanese style pasta and healthy alternative to your usual super creamy and heavy pasta dish.
Pyro is definitely worth trying if you’re looking for something new. It may be a bit pricey and won’t be part of your day to day resto visits but if you’re tired of all the Japanese restaurants in Davao, then this is a great alternative place.
I’m excited to see what they have to offer after their Grand Opening.
Pyro is located in Door 5A Mabini Commercial Complex, Mabini St, Barangay 9-A, Davao City. They’re open every day from 11am til 2pm, and re-open at 6pm to 10pm for dinner.
