Learn Food Writing 101 With The Power Of Pen!

by | Apr 27, 2018 | Davao, Events, Food

A few weeks ago, Coffeebot’s Davao Social Media account got a message in my Instagram inviting us to the upcoming Power of Pen this May 19. The Power of Pen is a writing workshop that has been held annually since 2009. It focuses on food, travel, and lifestyle writing…but it’s mostly known for the food.

This year’s workshop will be held here in Davao City at the Ateneo de Davao University from 9AM to 5PM. It’s thee will be Mindanao Culinary Culture: Research and Writing Basics. Five well-known food writers and experts from various fields will be speaking at the event and sharing their knowledge with the participants. Participation Fees for professionals will be 1,000PHP, while students will have a 500PHP discount.

What’s It Going To Be About?

The seminar will tackle several topics, ranging from writing entertaining but informative food reviews to making their food writing more marketable to audiences. And of course, as the theme suggests, there will also be a lesson on understanding Mindanao’s cuisine, culture, and how one can use food writing to keep the Mindanaoan culture intact as well as share it to everyone.

An Opportunity To Improve

Since Coffeebot has its fair share of Davao-based restaurants as clients , I encouraged my content and social media team to take part in the workshop. This is not just to help our clients out, but also to improve my staff’s skills and increase their knowledge. I’m very much willing to invest in their growth if they’re serious with their jobs. I think that as bosses—no, leaders–we should all take an interest in our employees’ careers and help in their development.

That aside, the Power of Pen is a great opportunity for writers, marketers, bloggers, and influencers to hone their skills in food writing. It’s definitely a must for those who want to make a name for themselves in the food writing world! Who knows—maybe what you’ll learn in this workshop could help you write an award-winning book someday.

POP, finally setting foot in Mindanao this summer! In the age of digitally-mediated communication platforms,…
