One thing consulting across different countries has reminded me is that strategy doesn’t always travel.
The technical side of digital marketing is surprisingly universal.
Campaign structures, tracking, automation, reporting… those principles don’t change very much.
People do.
Culture influences what people value, how they communicate, what they trust, and even how they interpret the exact same message.
That’s why I’ve never believed that one person can walk into any country and immediately know what will work.
Marketing isn’t about platforms. It’s about people.
The more I work with different countries, industries, and audiences, the more convinced I become that context matters far more than most marketing conversations give it credit for.
Learn from them. But don’t copy them.
Every week I come across another post promising the strategy that generated a 10x ROAS.
Or the funnel that doubled sales.
Or the campaign that cut acquisition costs in half.
I actually enjoy reading those posts.
There’s always something to learn.
But I worry when people copy them without understanding why they worked.
Good marketing starts with a better question.
Instead of asking:
“How do I copy this?”
I think businesses should ask:
“Would this still work for my customers?”
That’s where strategy begins.
Experience isn’t about knowing more tactics.
It’s about developing better judgment.
Knowing what to adapt.
Knowing what to ignore.
Knowing which questions to ask before spending the budget.
The longer I’ve worked in digital marketing…
…the less interested I’ve become in universal formulas.
I’m much more interested in understanding people.
Because once you understand people, the platforms become easier.
Not the other way around.
