Social Media for Advocacy is one of my favorite campaigns to run.
This was taken when I was attending the Climate Reality Training with Al Gore.In the photo, you’ll see Bryan Benitez McClelland, President & CEO at Bamb Ecological Technology Inc with me, holding a print-out of our our #SavaDavaoGreenSpaces campaign.
Back then, social media wasn’t utilized as much as today when it comes to advocacies. People, in general were also more skeptic if social media held any power at all.
Joke’s on them.
I’m showing this old photo because it’s such a great reminder of how I do what I do, and how I get what I get, and why I care at all.
This photo is one of the many passion projects I did before. Back in August of 2016, we were urging the local government to retain the 10% green space equirement for real estate developers.
My company, organization, and friends had to real power or connections to help with this campaign. All we knew how to do was market it on social media. And that we did.
We created posts like these, brought our banners when we can, took photos of public figures who wanted to support our cause.
Our call to action was:
Sign our petition.
For every signature, an e-mail address was sent to our local government.
All done organically. And this awareness campaign was GREAT. We bombed the LGU’s inbox. LOL
We do not claim responsibility for the campaign’s success. But this was the first of my many social media campaigns geared towards an advocacy.
Years later, Coffeebot is preferred by many organizations because when they look us up, they know how passionate we are for causes. They know we have experience in running these campaigns. We know the heartbreak of being ignored.
We know the sweet feeling of making a contribution to a cause.
Do you have passions outside your work? Do it! Work on it! You’ll never know how it can contribute to your work.
